LIGHTMEN PAINTING
Our Client Process · Portland, OR

Painting isn’t hard. Managing risk is.

Most “bad paint jobs” aren’t talent problems. They’re system problems: wrong diagnosis, rushed prep, bad sequencing, weak quality control, and zero long-term care. We run a simple process that prevents repeat failures.

Our Process

A simple system you can actually understand.

These steps replace long explanations scattered across pages. If you only remember one thing: we start with diagnosis so you don’t repaint the same problem twice.

01

Diagnose (ECR / ICR)

We identify failure risks: moisture pathways, substrate issues, worn details, and high-impact zones. This creates the “why” before we talk about the “what.”

02

Plan + Scope

Clear scope, clear assumptions, clear exclusions. If it’s not written, it’s not promised. This prevents “I thought that was included” drama.

03

Prep (the real job)

Prep is where paint jobs live or die: cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, sealing, priming, and protecting weak points like joints and edges.

04

Apply the right system

Materials and methods matched to conditions—especially in the PNW. Even coverage, clean lines, and proper dry times. No rushing the chemistry.

05

QA + Walkthrough

We verify key checkpoints, fix misses, clean up the site, and confirm the final result with you. You’re not left guessing what’s “normal.”

06

Protect (LCC)

Paint lasts longer when the home is cared for. LCC keeps caulk lines, wear zones, and moisture risks from turning into big failures later.

Why we push ECR first: It’s cheaper to diagnose than to repaint. And it prevents the classic Portland move: “Paint it again and hope the rain respects it this time.”
How it all connects

Different pages, one system.

This is your “map” without turning the page into a novel. Each page stays light. The system stays complete.

ECR (Exterior)

Exterior diagnosis + routine that catches failures early—built for Portland weather.

LCC (Long-term care)

Ongoing care that reduces repaint frequency and prevents repeat issues.

Warranty (Trust + rules)

Clear coverage, exclusions, and a simple claim process. No vague “trust us bro.”

FAQ

A few questions people actually ask.

Short answers. Then you move on with your day.

We can. But if the “problem” is moisture, substrate failure, or failed details, repainting first is how you pay twice. ECR reduces the odds of a repeat failure.
The structure is the same: diagnose → plan → prep → apply → QA. Interiors just swap moisture risk for wear zones, repairs, and finish consistency (flashing, patch texture, sheen control).
Start with diagnosis (ECR/ICR), fix the real failure points, then keep the home in good shape with routine care (LCC). Paint lasts longer when the building behaves.
