Painting Estimator job in Portland for someone who can inspect projects, explain scope, and build trust.
Lightmen Painting is looking for an estimator / inspector who can meet clients, inspect surfaces, document conditions, identify paint concerns, and help turn estimate requests into clear painting proposals.
This role is part sales, part inspection, part communication, and part “please notice the peeling fascia before it becomes a surprise.” Details matter here.
You are the bridge between the client’s concern and the crew’s actual scope.
The estimator / inspector helps identify what the client needs, what the surfaces are telling us, what prep is required, what risks exist, and what information the production team needs before the job starts.
The role is not about walking around with a clipboard and guessing. It is about observing, measuring, asking good questions, taking useful photos, explaining clearly, and building trust before the proposal is written.
Estimator / inspector can grow into sales leadership, production planning, or operations support.
A strong estimator understands the client, the surface, the scope, the crew, and the numbers. That makes the role valuable across sales and operations.
Meet clients, inspect projects, document scope, and support proposals.
Improve close rate, client education, proposal clarity, and follow-up.
Help translate estimate notes into clean field handoffs and job plans.
Support systems, quality control, inspection standards, and project communication.
Listen
Understand what the client wants, what bothers them, and what timeline they are working with.
Inspect
Review surfaces, access, condition, prep needs, failure points, and project complexity.
Document
Take useful photos, measurements, notes, and risk details.
Explain
Help the client understand what matters, what affects cost, and what comes next.
Handoff
Support proposal writing and give the field team clear notes if the project moves forward.
This may be a good fit if...
- You understand painting or construction basics
- You can talk with clients professionally
- You notice surface issues and details
- You can take useful photos and notes
- You can explain scope without pressure
- You like sales, systems, and field work
This is probably not for you if...
- You guess instead of inspecting
- You hate documentation
- You overpromise to make people happy
- You cannot explain details clearly
- You miss obvious surface problems
- You think estimating is just “eyeballing it”
Show us you can inspect, communicate, and follow through.
Apply, complete any requested learning or orientation steps, and be ready to discuss your painting, sales, estimating, or construction experience.
Painting estimator job questions.
What does a painting estimator do?
A painting estimator meets with clients, inspects surfaces, documents project scope, measures work areas, identifies paint concerns, takes photos, explains recommendations, and helps prepare clear painting estimates.
Do I need painting experience to apply?
Painting experience is strongly helpful for this role. Applicants should understand surface preparation, common paint failures, interior and exterior painting basics, and how to communicate scope clearly.
Is this a sales role?
This role includes sales communication, but it is not about high-pressure selling. The goal is to inspect accurately, explain clearly, build trust, and help clients understand the right painting scope.
Can this grow into operations or sales leadership?
Yes. A strong estimator who communicates well, documents scope clearly, and understands production can grow into sales leadership, inspection systems, production planning, or operations support.
What is the first step?
Apply and complete any requested Lightmen learning or orientation materials so the company can evaluate communication, judgment, follow-through, and fit.
