Creating meaningful outcomes and real opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples has been part of Wilco’s story since day one — and it remains at the centre of everything we do.
“The opportunity presented itself because someone recognised the potential in me and was willing to give me a chance… with opportunity comes responsibility. I wanted to make that same difference to others who needed a hand up.”

Tim and Frank with Apprentice Brett Woodhouse
In December 2016, Director Frank Mitchell pledged to create 20 electrical apprenticeships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women by the end of 2020. Wilco created 12 electrical apprenticeships and 22 positions in total.
The commitment continues. Wilco has pledged a further 25 positions for Aboriginal people, supported by supervisors, trainers and mentors across our extended work team — and by clients willing to stand beside us.

Tim & Tasch Bidstrup and Frank Mitchell with the finished piece
This artwork draws inspiration from the land and waterways of Whadjuk boodja (Perth). At its centre is the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River), a significant waterway that flows through and connects Country. The design also reflects the season of Kambarang (October–November), the Noongar season of birth, renewal, and wildflowers. It is especially meaningful that Wilco Electrical began its journey during Kambarang — a season that represents new beginnings and growth.
Reflecting themes of growth and connection to Country, the artwork symbolises Wilco Electrical and its journey as a company. The two outer gathering symbols represent people coming together in unity, supporting one another, and growing together. The circles represent the strong and enduring relationships Wilco has built over the years, highlighting the importance of connection to people, place, and shared progress.
